purple anyone?

I started a blog entry in response to a friend’s blog entry.  I was wrestling with the fact that I was a little offended at one particular suggestion which got me rolling.  At the same time, I was being offended when I have no idea if I am even one of the people that my friend was frustrated hence, I didn’t know if my offendedness was valid or not… anyway…

The tone of her blog was very irritated and frustrated.  I finally realized that there’s a good chance that her frustration and consternation might be from the political climate that she may have to deal with on a daily basis even when she may not agree with it.  I find myself in this same position on a daily basis.  It just so happens that I live in a state that is likely to go red on election day.  She lives in a state that will most likely go blue.  It’s not hard to imagine that we’d both be constantly subjected to positions and arguments with which we don’t agree.

I hope that she has the courage and conviction to speak the truth when it is not being spoken.  I hope she listens carefully and thoughtfully as she’s exposed to ideas that she may or may not agree, but that she is not reactionary and tries to understand and measure opposing views on their own merit and not according to any predetermined ideology.

I’ll just keep digging.
